By the Numbers

My Dietitian Loves Me

I had my follow-up appointment with my dietitian today so she could see how well I was handling things. The first thing she gave me when I got into the appointment was a quick sheet that I had to complete, asking me about my diet, any concerns I had, and whether or not the dietary changes were making my quality of life any better. Naturally, I had to change the “No” to a “Not Yet”.

Yes, I’m a smartass, but the dietary changes really haven’t changed my quality of life for the better. While they are getting better, the cravings are getting much better and I’m not wanting to drive my head face first into the biggest chocolate cake I can find. My dietitian reminded me that I can have some cake and other sweets, but I had to remind her that it’s not the simple want that gets me, it’s the lack of an ability to eat the whole thing in one sitting without going into a diabetic coma. I know I’ll get there, though.

I’m happy that my dietitian was impressed by my numbers. Apparently I’ve been working toward the non-diabetic targets, which is good, but the numbers that are used to measure diabetic progress are actually much higher. I guess the good news is that I’m doing really well with my numbers!

One thing I had to discuss with her today was the amount of carbs I’ve been taking in. Apparently the meal plan she created for me was designed for me to maintain my weight, since my BMI is still in a good range. Awwww, how sweet, she called me thin! Yes, that’s how I’m taking it.

She readjusted my carb intake a bit so I can take in fewer carbs. Hopefully that will help me to lose some weight like I’ve been wanting to do. My BMI might be good, but I want it to be great! And give me an excuse to buy some more clothes.

Daily Summary

Working with my PCP, we decided it was time to increase my Metformin to 1000mg per dose. When we went to pick up my updated prescription, the pharmacy gave me three large bottles of pills. Damn! That’s a lot of Metformin! Granted it will probably just last me a month, but still, a ton of pills.

Speaking of my pills and my diet, we went to Applebee’s for dinner tonight. Having looked at their menu before, I know exactly what to eat without blowing up my carb count. Tonight I decided to play around with my carbs a bit and added some fries with my burger, and had one extra mozzarella stick. Two hours after eating? 140! Not too bad for the night, if I do say myself!
